With a hot and dry forecast ahead for the weekend, the Manitoba Wildfire Service has warned that the fire danger level across the province is currently high to very high. Because human activity is a significant contributing factor to wildfires, it is up to all of us in the riding community to do our part and prevent accidental fires.

If you are planning to take your ATV or ORV out, please follow these crucial safety restrictions and guidelines to keep our trails and forests safe:

🛠️ Equipment & Trail Rules

  • Stick to the Paths: If you are operating an ATV, use only designated trails when riding within provincial parks.
  • Clear the Debris: Regularly check your machine for any buildup of dry debris around the engine and exhaust system, and dispose of those materials safely.
  • Prevent Sparks: Check and maintain all of your equipment before heading out, including vehicle tires, trailers, and your off-road vehicles.
  • Watch Your Chains: Double-check the safety chains on your trailers to ensure they are secure and hanging well off the ground before driving. Sparks from dragging chains can easily start a brush fire!

🎒 Backcountry Preparedness

  • Pack the Essentials: Always carry a fire extinguisher, an axe, and a shovel when traveling in the backcountry so you are fully prepared to safely extinguish small fires.

📞 See smoke? Report a wildfire immediately by calling 911 or dialing the toll-free TIP line at 1-800-782-0076.
